I share the following links for the clients with whom I’ve discussed great books (especially my fave – the Game of Thrones series), or who recommended Brandon Sanderson (of whose writing I’ve yet to partake) or just told me they love Sci-Fi.

First, a list of the 50 best SciFi & Fantasy books of the last decade. I am definitely adding many of these to my want-to-read list.

Second, the 100 favorites of all time, plus a few extras you may not have come across. Based on an open readers’ poll and winnowed down by NPR judges.

Third, what I would describe as a non-fiction Sci-Fi interview, if such is possible, with Oxford’s director of the Future of Humanity Institute. I mean, don’t you want to contemplate the existential threats to human existence? Yes, I actually read the whole interview; no, I didn’t completely follow it all. I’m more interested in Fantasy than SciFi, but I thought of many of you as I read this and wondered what you’d think.

Fortunately blog posts don’t invade clients’ personal lives the way my pestering email/text messages would: “Hey, I read this & was wondering what you would think…?”

Myself, right now I’ve started a thick biography of William S Burroughs, whose own writings, btw, I’ve never read. Huh? Well, I’ll never be an upper-middle class gay man living in the early 20th century so I’m interested to see what his world looked like with the hindsight/objective perspective of a biographer who knew him.
